Legacy

Another day has gone past
And no one has seen the mask change
She tries to show no emotion
Hoping to hide all of her pain
     Underneath her mask her heart is broken
     From an affair she had not so long ago
     If you could look deep into her eyes
     You'd see the agony she keeps inside
He had been such a romantic soul
Swept her right off of her feet
Rescued her from a love that had gone wrong
He'd made her fall in love so quickly
     All had doubts about their relationship
     Both were on the rebound from another
     But the two of them loved passionately
     And proved their devotion beyond a doubt
But not all fairy tales are happy ones
And though the two of them loved so fiercely
They could not block the forces of life
And the world tore the two of them apart
     An eternity passes and they are drawn together again
     He becomes her champion in her battle for life
     Helping her to fight a dangerous addiction
     He helps her to regain control over her life
Things are looking so good now
Back in each other's arms again
They are so easy and loving with one another
They seem to be giving their love another try
     But things are not always what they seem
     Appearances can be so very deceiving
     She offered him everything that she was
     But all that he wanted was her body
When things became too complicated he left her
Shattering her heart, soul, and her self-esteem
He almost succeeded in destroying her
But she tried not to show how much she hurt
     She clawed her way back to the top
     Determined to forget all about him
     She fought to survive on her own
     And when the baby was born she was prepared
Living without him was harder than she'd expected
As he still owned her heart and her soul
But she wouldn't allow desolation to overwhelm her
As she now had some new responsibilities
     Now she is a completely different person
     And she still remembers him with sadness
     Although it hurts her she continues on without him
     Seeing his face in their daughter everyday.
